When any music lover thinks about carnatic music, person who comes in his mind is none other than M.S.Subulakshmi.(Madurai Shanmukhavadivu Subbulakshmi).Carntic Music can't be utter without taking M.S. in account.The songs, bhajans,kirtans,prayers & lot more sung by her would always be in the heart of people.
M.S.Subulakshmi who was born in Madras (Now Chennai) in the family of veena playing duo.Since,she had started taking lessons of music from her parents, she had been learning music under tutelage of Semmangudi Shriniwas Iyer & Pandit Narayan Rao Vyas.She learnt Sanskrit & Telugu from Dr.Nenunduri Krishnamurthy.At the age of 13, she had performed at Madras Music Academy and earned praise from well known music critics. She was first musician who had got highest civilian award Bharat Ratna & Ramon Magsaysay Award of Asia.Also, she had won various national & international awards for her contribution to music.Being talented & enthralling vocalist, she was a philanthropist with simple nature who feels very easy to interact with anybody. In order to generate revenue for donation, she had performed at 200 concerts and raised sum of 1 crore .She had also acted in few films.'Sevasadnam' was her debut movie and 'Savitri' in which she had played role of Narada(Male Character in Indian Spiritual Stories).
She deserved to be said the Goddess Of Carnatic Music as she justifies her image.She got various names from various renowned personalities like Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru called her "Queen Of Music" while Lata Mangeshkar used to called her "Tapaswini" .Another music maestros like Bade Gulam Ali Khan called her "Suswaralakshmi" and Sarojini Naidu called her "Nightingale of India".
